Registered Dietitian

What is a Registered Dietitian?

Dietitians are highly qualified health practitioners, who have been trained in human physiology and development, management and the health of populations. Their training has been focused on the role of proper nutrition in promoting a healthy body and mind.

A Dietitian provides quality advice on nutrition, food, and healthy eating. A Dietitians main role in private practice is to counsel and support clients to make changes in their eating habits to promote health and prevent or manage chronic illness such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.

Dietitians must be registered with Provincial Regulatory Bodies and are the only professionals who can use the titles Registered Dietitian, Professional Dietitian and Dietitian, which are protected by law. Look for the letters R.D., P.Dt. or D.Pt. after the name, indicating that the person is a registered member of the profession.

Live Healthy. Consult a Dietitian

Healthy eating is all about balance. All foods can be a part of a healthy lifestyle and our dietitians would like to show you how! We are passionate about helping people reach their individual health or sports performance goals and we would love to make Newfoundland and Labrador a healthier province.

Newfoundland and Labrador earned the lowest score of all the provinces in Canada on the most recent health report card (2015), getting a D minus. A huge concern highlighted from this report is the rate of obesity in our province. Our dietitians have focused much of their time in completing extra training in the area of weight loss and have developed professional weight loss programs. Through diet and lifestyle changes, we change the statistics!

Additionally, our dietitians are committed to becoming among the top sports nutrition professionals in the country! Sports nutrition is becoming more popular in Canada and our dietitians are on their way to helping Newfoundland and Labrador’s athletes perform at their best!

  • Initial Assessment

Your registered dietitian will begin with a comprehensive assessment, where they will review medical history and any relevant blood work, if applicable. The dietitian will aim to understand your current lifestyle and any barriers you may have to reaching your goal. Your current food intake, preferences, intolerances and concerns will be addressed. The initial assessment will determine areas where nutrition intervention will be of benefit. After identifying areas of concern, the dietitian will work with you to develop a nutrition care plan and provide strategies to attain your nutrition, health and/or performance goals.

    Custom package

After the initial assessment, you and your dietitian will put together a custom package based on your nutrition requirements and specific goals. Each custom package will include a certain number of follow up and check in appointments, plus any additional services you may require. A 15% discount will be offered for bundled services.

    Follow-up (30 min)

Follow-up appointments will allow the dietitian to provide continuing support, education, and guidance. These appointments allow progress to be monitored and adjustments to the nutrition care plan to be made as necessary. Various nutrition topics of your choice (i.e. label reading, meal ideas, sports nutrition, etc.) will be discussed during these sessions.

    Check-in appointment (15 min)

This is typically used once you are on a set plan. Your weight can be measured and any questions you have will be answered. Recipes and meal suggestions are often provided. This is a great, affordable option to keep you accountable and to monitor progress!
